The Tour of Britain is the UK’s most prestigious cycling race. Over eight days, cyclists tackle a gruelling 1,250km (give or take!) course, passing through England, Wales and, of course, Scotland.
Each stage final requires significant community support, in advance of the day, and engagement in the final itself – lots of cheering crowds waiting at the finish line!
Working with our friends at Visit Kelso, Live Borders and Scottish Borders Council, we planned, organised and delivered a community event to sit alongside the official ToB village. Starting the week before, a variety of events and activities ran, all with a cycling theme.
One the day itself, the objective was to draw and keep the crowds in The Square, Kelso between the race start and the thrilling finish.
Thousands of people from Kelso, the Scottish Borders, and beyond joined us on the day.
“This year’s Tour of Britain stage in the Scottish Borders was a great success, in particular for the fantastic way that the community in and around Kelso embraced hosting both the start and finish stage in their town. The work of Scottish Borders Council and Emily and the Visit Kelso team really amplified the event for us, and ensured it was a success for the Kelso Community – the town had a real buzz throughout the day.” – Peter Hodges, PR and Marketing Director, Tour of Britain.
