Find Out A Bit More About the McGowan Marketing Team.

Emily McGowan aka Lady Boss

What drew you to the industry?
I am going to say Lucy from Neighbours and then direct you to my blog on the subject!

What professional achievement are you most proud of and why?
Walking away from a ‘job for life’ because I knew I didn’t fit anymore, and then starting up my own business.

Outside of my professional day job, I am hugely proud to have passed my MBA with a distinction!

What’s your favourite app?
I’m a bit of an app addict – I love anything that claims to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Trello and Slack are two of my favourites.

What do you like to do in your free time?
My first answer would be listen to music and dancing but in reality I am a serial hobbyist! There are not many activities I have not tried (the list so far: golf, tennis, horse riding, reiki, colouring-in, sewing, knitting, crochet, language learning, gardening, astronomy, hip-hop dancing, drumming, photography, baking, cooking, skiing, yoga…)

Currently I go to boxing training twice a week, jog, swim and cycle.

I read…a lot.

What’s something about yourself that would surprise people?
I am a Scottish Football Association coach and love watching Champions League football (The World Cup and The Euros too)

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be? Why?
Elle Woods – sorry, if that’s too obvious but it annoys me that there is still a perception that women can’t be girlie and giggly, at the same time as being intelligent and kick-ass good in the world of business.

Also, Reese Witherspoon would have to play me in a movie about my life.

What’s your favourite genre of music to work to?
I love it ALL – well, most of it.

Name something on your bucket list.
I want to see Sakura in Japan.

Pick one for the rest of your life: tea or coffee?
Impossible – I need both, every day! I do try to alternate with green tea though.

Lara McGowan aka Favourite Daughter

What drew you to the industry?
My mum – she is awesome and a total inspiration.

What professional achievement are you most proud of and why?
Getting an unconditional offer for St Andrews University

What’s your favourite app?
Instagram, of course. I am 17!

What do you like to do in your free time?
Mess about with a football and listen to music. I like going for a drive with my mum so we can listen to music - as loudly as possible!

Oh, and eating!

What’s something about yourself that would surprise people?
I consume over 3,000 calories per day!

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be? Why?
Sherlock Holmes – the Benedict one. Because I am that smart.

What’s your favourite genre of music to work to?
Hip-hop/rap.

Name something on your bucket list.
I want to meet Benedict Cumberbatch.

Pick one for the rest of your life: tea or coffee?
Neither. I like green tea.

Christine Kellett aka Mamma-Du

What drew you to the industry?
I had come to the end of my career in Higher Education but was not ready to stop working. I was really excited about going to work with my daughter, helping her build up her new business.

What professional achievement are you most proud of and why?
Studying for a Degree in Business Management once my family had grown up.

What’s your favourite app?
Apps are really not my thing; however, I have recently been learning to use Trello.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I play indoor and outdoor bowling.

What’s something about yourself that would surprise people?
When I was younger, I lived and worked in Switzerland.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be? Why?
Minnie Mouse. Minnie is a brilliant character who has been around forever. Her taste in clothes and her little house are superb.

What’s your favourite genre of music to work to?
I hate listening to music when I am working. I listen to music only when I am relaxing.

Name something on your bucket list.
To go to Moscow.

Pick one for the rest of your life: tea or coffee?
Tea every time.

Cat McLaughlin aka Creative Queen

What drew you to the industry?
I’ve always known I wanted to do something creative, and graphic design felt like a natural choice for me.

What professional achievement are you most proud of and why?
I designed posters for SPT that appeared on Glasgow Subway trains and station platforms! I also created an activity booklet to teach kids about Glasgow Subway for the Riverside Museum, and revamped a supporting educational microsite for the “Shoogle Club.” It’s great to think of so many people seeing or interacting with something I worked on.

What’s your favourite app?
I think it has to be Instagram. Other contenders would be Pinterest, Etsy and Spotify.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I love photography and enjoy getting out and about with my camera. Yoga keeps me sane, and when I’m feeling active, I enjoy cycling or rock climbing. You’ll often find me curled up with my knitting or baking something sweet at the weekend. Music is a big part of my life too and I go to gigs and music festivals whenever I can.

What’s something about yourself that would surprise people?
I went to school in Europe and speak French, German and a sprinkling of Flemish/Dutch.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you be? Why?
Aggretsuko – she’s hardworking and seems docile by day but knows how to rock out with her friends at night!

What’s your favourite genre of music to work to?
It depends what mood I’m in and what I’m working on! My taste in music is quite broad, so it could be anything from pop to hard rock, rap to electronica or even soul.

Name something on your bucket list.
A long-held dream of visiting Japan (especially Kyoto and Tokyo). I would also like to watch the final stage of the Tour de France from the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

Pick one for the rest of your life: tea or coffee?
Herbal tea for me, please!
